Lyrics of The Man on the Loading Dock
He started his working years as a radio DJ
He did it on a whim
After a
year and a half he had to laugh
Knowing this job was not meant for him
Taking requests from listeners, for their music to play
As the teletype
rattled off news constantly
That had to be read all day
Answering the
phone yet feeling alone
Lord there had to be a better way
With a tear
in his eye he said goodbye
To all his radio friends he came to know
Got a
job at a local factory
And bought himself a brand new GTO
Now he
stands on the edge of the loading dock
waiting for the next truck to back in
So he can proceed to load the goods we need
Thank God for men like him
Tall and muscular, yet so lean and slim
He worked hard loading trucks all
day
Didn't drink didn't smoke and that's no joke
There was no need to
belong to a gym
He worked his whole life loading trucks
That's how
this story goes
Through all those boiling hot summers
And the winters he
damn near froze
He was old and gray when bad news came his way
The
plant was about to close
He did not fret nor did he regret
The life, the
life that he had chose
As he stared out across the parking lot
At his
rusty beat up GTO
He remembered the times that old car
Took him to and fro
To the job he loved, and if he could
He would do it all over again
The
man to load the goods
The man on the loading dock
The man on the loading
dock
Thank God for men like him, like him.
