On a Country Road

Exiting the asphalt onto a quiet dusty dirt road
Way out in the country, the countryside so serene
The gravel under my tires inspires, my troubles start to unload
The fields and the hillsides are all so green

I park my car in a cove that's in the shade
I set the brake tightly, I'm on a bit of a grade
I feel so good.... the sun is out
Pleasant thoughts fill my head for me to think about

I go for a walk as the noonday sun shines down
It feels so good to walk on the warm warm ground
Farmers are working the land they love and doing their thing
A flock of geese fly high above, I can hear them sing

Walking for a mile breathing the fresh summer air
All the while I haven't a care
I happen upon a stone bridge that's over a stream
Watching the fish and the turtles puts me in a dream

If you come to my door and I'm not home
If I don't answer the telephone, you know where I'm at. Oh yes you do.
It's for sure you will find me walking, walking on a country road
I'll be walking on a country road
Slow down, be careful, don't step on that toad
