Lyrics of Ode to Mike

Hey lookee way yonder down the road.
It's a little pick up truck with a great big load
and a plume of dust kicking up from behind.
With it's faded red paint and rusty holes
hauling a load of old cedar fence posts.
It's mike and he's a friend of mine.

Now Mike may seem like a funny little guy
and if you hold on, I'll explain why,
before I get myself accused.
Most folks say Mike, yer dumb
but he knows he's having all the fun
and it doesn't take much to keep him amused.

One of his quirks is taking things apart
just to see exactly how they work
and then he'll put them all back together again.
But I have to raise a toast
to the story that I've heard the most.
That's the one about that rusty old Chevy S-10.

Again and again he talks about his friend
and how she brought him a lot of good luck.
He remembers the day she came his way.
Rescueing her from the compactor
He surely averted a total disaster
and it only cost him fifteen bucks.

A little TLC he got her running on three
and then finally on all four.
And a lot of baling wire to tie shut the drivers door.
He drove it many years with out any fears
hauling everything big and small.
Nothing was too heavy for his Chevy. She could handle it all.

(Narrate)

Then one day with a strange look in his eye.
For a brief moment I thought he would cry.
I could tell by the way he spoke.
His gentle heart may be broke
Ya know.... I bought her for a song and I've driven her , oh so very long.
Her engine is knocking and I think she's going to die.

I have a favor you might not savor.
I would only ask from a friend.
Put a cigarette in my mouth when I head South.
Bury me in my old Chevy.
Way down in the ground without any sound.
Happy forever in my old Chevy S-10.

Hey lookee yonder down the road.
It's a little pickup truck with a great big load
kicking up a cloud of dust from behind.
With it's faded red paint and rusty holes
hauling a load of old cedar fence posts.
It's Mike, and he's a friend of mine.

Yes, it's Mikey, and he's a very good friend of mine.
