with
Maureen Carlson
November 8, 9 & 10, 2019

The pictured walking stick and Story Necklace reflect Maureen's stories and interests.

Yours will be One of a Kind!

What Symbols and Images Speak to YOU?

WHEN: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 8, 9 and 10, 2019

Class will be held each day from 10:00 – 5:00 (with a break for lunch)

WHERE: Quality Suites conference room
1501 Gibson Boulevard, Albuquerque

Hosted by Annie Hooten

Class Description:

Walking sticks, especially those that incorporate faces or symbols, can transport one into a world of imagination and adventure. While Maureen can't guarantee a magical journey to class participants, she can teach you how to use Apoxie Sculpt, polymer clay, fibers, beads and charms to turn a purchased or found walking stick into a one-of-a-kind work of art.

The embellishments are designed so that some will be incorporated into the body of the stick while others will be removable. Imagine having a necklace and earrings that double as sculpture when you're not wearing them!

The walking stick can also be created as a shorter talking stick or wall embellishment.

The class will include basic sculpting techniques for creating symbols, animals and faces. Students do not have to have previous sculpting experience. Face, hand and feet molds will be available for those who wish to use them.

Methods will be demonstrated for giving shape and form to personal symbols and metaphors. The end results will each be unique, telling the students' stories through their choices of subject, color, shapes and symbols. Let the adventure begin!

Walking Stick Idea

If you are traveling by plane, consider this type of collapsible walking stick. Maureen used this one for her sample walking stick, pictured above.
